Rawat sets C’ship date with Koirala

Kathmandu, May 2

Ira Rawat and Prerana Koirala advanced to women’s singles final of the sixth Citizens Bank Open Tennis Tournament here today.

In the semi-final matches, Rawat defeated Abhilasha Bista 6-3, 6-1, while Koirala thrashed Ganga Sharma 6-2, 6-1. In men’s category, Jitendra Pariyar and Kamal Bhandari made it to the final. Pariyar beat Pradeep Khadka 6-1, 6-1 and Bhandari saw off Santosh Khatri 6-3, 6-2.

In men’s doubles, the pair of Santosh Khatri and Jitendra Pariyar outplayed the duo of Niresh Shrestha and Anil Kuinkel 6-2, 6-0, while the pair of Anil Shahi and Pradeep  Khadka beat Pranjal Kayastha and Nabin Magar 6-4, 6-4 to advance to final.

Santosh Khatri also advanced to the above-35 veteran singles final earning a double bagel against Raju Shrestha. Similarly, Mahesh Shrestha beat Rohit Sunuwar 6-3, 6-4 to confirm his meeting with Khatri.

In above-35 veteran doubles, the pair of Chandra Shahi and Raju Shrestha defeated the duo of Raju Chhetri and Simant Gurung 6-0, 6-3, while Shree Ram Magar and Sobhitman Shrestha outplayed the pair of Niresh Shrestha and Anil Kuinkel 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the final.

In above-65 veteran singles, Deepak Shrestha and Gyanendra Tamrakar entered the final, while Bishnu Gaire and Dhurba Gurung made it to the final in above-55 singles. In above-45 veteran singles, Bimal Gurung, Krishna Raj Ghale, Bikash Gurung and Binod Gurung advanced to semis.
