LALITPUR: Jagadal Battalion won the volleyball tournament title of the Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Trophy Sports Meet here at the Nepali Army Sports Complex in Lagankhel on Thursday. Jagadal defeated Purano Gorakh Battalion 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 in the final. Shumsherdal Battalion finished third in the tournament. In the inaugural event on Wednesday night, Sangita Meche of Central Division won the women’s 400m race in one minute and 00.33 seconds, while Saraswati Bhattarai of Air Defense Directorate — who shattered 26-year-old national record in 800m race at the Rio Olympic Games last month — came second in 1:00.63, while her teammate Krishnaa Chaudhary was third in 1:01.43. In men’s 8800m race, Som Bahadur Kumal of Air Defense came first in 1:57.22, ahead of Umesh Marshyangdi Magar (1:58.04) of Artillery and Jeevan Chaudhary (1:59.12) of Mid-west. Earlier, CoAS Gen Rajendra Chhetri inaugurated meet. A total of 18 teams are taking part in the meet that features athletics, swimming, boxing, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, football, handball, cycling and kabaddi tournaments.
