Jhapa XI successfully defend Falgunanda Gold Cup

PACHTHAR: Defending champions Jhapa XI beat Tribhuvan Army Club 2-1 in the final to successfully defend the title of Falgunanda Gold Cup in Phidim of Panchathar district today.

Jhapa XI's Pujan Uverkoti broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute before TAC's Rajiv Gurung scored an equaliser in the 71th minute of the second half in a fiery encounter.

With seven minutes left in the clock, Uverkoti scored his brace and a winning goal to see off spirited departmental team for the crown.

Later, Jhapa XI players dominated in an individual accolades as their midfielder Devendra Tamang was declared best player of the tournament. He received Yahama 125 CC motorbike.

Likewise, Jhapa XI's Manoj Pradhan, Pujan Uverkoti, Dilen Loktam, Karna Limbu bagged best goalkeeper, midfielder, forward and highest scorer award respectively.

Similarly, Jhapa XI coach Prabesh Katuwal won the best coach award. Phidim Sports Club's player Pravin Jabegu was declared 'the rising player' of the competition.

ANFA President Karma Tsering Bhuttia and National Sports Council Vice-Chair Matrika Timilsena awarded medals, trophies and certificates to the winning team and runner-up team players and officials.

Winning team Jhapa XI bagged a cash purse of Rs 0.4 million along with trophy and medals. Runner-up TAC received medals, certificates and Rs 0.2 million.

A total of 10 teams from Nepal and India had particiapated in the tournament, the organisers said.
