KC, Maharjan set up title clash
Kathmandu, February 1:
Mahesh KC of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Deepak Maharjan of Nepal Youth Boxing Group (NYBG) advanced to the men’s 81kg final at the Nationwide Open Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship today.
KC defeated Khilraj Lakhe of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) while Maharjan overcame Max Basnet of Tikathali in the semi-final bouts. Likewise, Sushil Ghimire of APF beat Ek Bahadur Ghale of TAC and Bhupendra Bachhunje of TAC defeated Banjol Tudu of Eastern Region Boxing Association (ERBA) to enter the 64kg final.
Advancing to the 69kg final were Sudhan Gurung of TAC and Devendra Maharjan of APF. Rajan Shilpakar of Makwanpur and Ujjwol Singh Thapa of TAC set up championship bout in the 75kg section. Also, Ganesh Budha Chhetry of Surkhet and Jutin Hemram of ERBA won their 45kg semi-final bouts. Sachit Raut of APF set up championship match against Bimal Kumar Singh of Kanchanpur after both the boxers won the 48kg semi-final matches today. Making it to the final in the 51kg section were Laxuvan Tamang of APF and Sudesh Manandhar of Makawanpur.
Also through to the finals were Yukesh Nagarkoti of APF and Chandra Gurung of Nepal Youth Mandal in 54kg; Dinesh Shrestha of Police and Suresh Karki of NYGB in 57kg; and Bikash Bal Lama and Ajit Gurung in 60kg. In the women’s section, Anuradha Lama of APF and Dhani Thapa of Bajura advanced to the 57kg section final while Sumitra Napit of APF and Prabha Rajali of Gulmi made it to the final in the 50kg section.
