LALITPUR, MARCH 21

The Cricket Association of Nepal is organising the Lalitpur Mayor Women's Championship at the TU Stadium from April 3-10.

A total of five teams - the four semi-finalists of the PM Cup held in Dang two months ago and the Mayor-XI - will take part in the Twenty20 cricket tournament, informed CAN Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakuryal at a press meet today.

The teams will play against each other in the round robin league and top two sides in the table will enter the final.

Province-1 had defeated defending champions Nepal APF Club in the final of the tournament in Ghorahi, while Sudurpashchim Province and Lumbini Province were the two losing semi-finalists of the tournament.

According to Pyakuryal, the Mayor-XI team will be formed with the best players from the sides which were eliminated from the league round. "The Mayor-XI team will have the best players who could not advance to the semi-finals due to various reasons," he added.

The winners will be richer by Rs 300,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 150,000. Likewise, the player of the series will earn Rs 25,000, while the best batter and bowler will get Rs 15,000 each. Player of the match in every game will get Rs 3,000, while the cricketers will get Rs 1,000 each as match fee.

"Apart from all these, we will provide accommodation and travel expenses to the participating teams," Secretary Pyakuryal.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan said the support to women's tournament was under the policy of his office. "We have decided to support sports sector this year and we are supporting cricket under our policy," said Maharjan.

The Lalitpur Metropolitan City has provided CAN with two million rupees to organise the event.

"The amount is not big but this just a beginning," said Maharjan.
