Lama wins golf title
Kathmandu, September 27
Phuntsok N Lama won the title of the third World Tourism Day Golf Championship at the Royal Nepal Golf Club here on Sunday.
Lama, who played his round on Saturday, accumulated 42 points to win the trophy. The 14-handicap amateur golfer, Lama scored 21 points on either half.
Sanyog Shahi finished second with 38 points. The two-day tournament was played under stableford 3/4 handicap format.
Maj Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi, who has put his pro card on hold, won the gross section award with 31 points, while Vivek SJB Rana was second with 29 points. Rekha Ghimire lifted the women’s category trophy with 30 points, whereas Pawitra Yakthumba finished runner-up with 24 points. Pissanu Charnfun was the guest winner with 37 points.
In senior category, Capt Machhindra Bahadur Limbu finished first with 37 points, ahead of Maj man Bahadur Limbu (32). Binod Tamang claimed the junior section title with 42 points, whereas Subash Ghising was second with 37 points. Shrihar SJB Rana bagged the most birdies award with three birdies, while Hari Bahadur Rai and Ang Tendi Sherpa won the longest drive and closest to the pin award respectively.
A total of 98 participants took part in the two-day tournament organised by Nepal Golf Association to mark the World Tourism Day.
The tournament was supported by National Sports Council, Nepal Tourism Board, Ballantine’s, Yeti Air, Druk Air and Thai Airways. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Kripasur Sherpa, NGA President Madhukar Yakthumba, RNGC President Rabidra Man Shrestha and RNGC Lady Captain Pawitra Yakthumba handed over the prizes to the winners.
