Lifters off to South Korea

Kathmandu, October 24

A seven-member Nepali team today left for South Korea to participate in the Asia Cup and Inter-club Weightlifting Championship to be held in Yongue from October 28 to November 2.

The team — which will undergo four-day training before the tournament — includes four players, two coaches and an official.

The 10th South Asian Games gold medallist Kamal Bahadur Adhikari will participate in men’s 77kg weight category, while Prakash KC will take part in 69kg section. Likewise, Sanju Chaudhary (53kg) and Kamala Shrestha (58kg) will participate in women’s section. Except for KC, all other three lifters are national record holders, while the event will be first international outing for Chaudhary but she has participated in international event at home.

Sanjay Maharjan and Jeevan Gautam are the coaches of the team and the latter is also the team manager, while judge Ashok Shahi accompanied the players to Korea. National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista and Treasurer Surendra Hamal among others bade farewell to the team. Meanwhile, Vice-president of Nepal Weightlifting Association Ram Shrestha handed over the track-suits and t-shirts to the team members.
