Snooker tournament

LALITPUR: Niraj Thapa defeated Dipu Shakya and Buddha Lama beat Om Karki with the identical 4-2 margin to qualify for the quarter-finals at the National Selection Snooker Tournament here on Saturday. Also making it to the last eight was Ganga Thapa who beat Narendra Man Shrestha 4-1 while Sanjay Mulmi, Chakra Lama, Rajan Lama and Saroj Mulmi advanced with walkover wins. The top two cueists will represent Nepal in the second Asian Indoor Games to be held in Macau from October 26 to November 3.— HNS

Buddha Air Cup

LALITPUR: Operation Department thrashed Engineering Department 8-0 and Airport Marketing beat Head Office 3-2 in the fourth Buddha Air Cup internal football tournament. Biswas Rana, Anuj Sapkota and Jaya netted for Airport Marketing while Parasar Jung Pandey and Nirmal Adhikari replied for Head Office. Kishan Shrestha beat Biswash Thapa to win the snooker tournament. Bhagwan Thapa and Gita Jung Basnet finished third. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Pratima Gurung of the hosts Valley Public School and Yumi Tuladhar of Mahendra Bhawan advanced the girl’s 30kg final at the ninth Valley Public Gojukai Karate Tournament here on Saturday. Sital Karki, Shristi Shrestha, Karena Lama and Tashi Sherpa made it to the 25kg semi-finals while Kiran, Munu Rai, Mingma Diki Sherpa and Punam KC advanced to the 50kg semis. Likewise, Suresh Khadka, Prabin Danuwar, Manish Tamang and Ganesh BK entered the boy’s 20kg semi-finals. Also advancing to the semi-finals in other boy’s sections were Karsang Dawa Sherpa, Suresh Pun, Suwarna Timalsina and Bijay Gurung in 25kg; Sagar Dhungana, Bikram Shrestha, Shekhar Gautam and Tikaram Gurung in 30kg; Mahesh Thapa Magar, Laxman Maharjan, Subhash Tamang and Diwas Sunuwar in 35kg; and Anil Sherpa, Sunil Khadka, Govinda Rai and Kailash KC in 40kg. — HNS

In the boys’ section, Maryland defeated GEMS 25-23, 25-20; Bhim School beat Bright Future 25-22, 25-19; Venus edged past Kamal School 25-16, 25-15; Deep Jyoti overcame Bhim School 25-16, 25-20; Maryland crushed Gyankunja ‘B’ 25-8, 25-9; SEB overcame Gyakunja ‘A’ 25-18, 25-23; GEMS beat Gyankunja ‘B’ 25-12, 25-6; Saptagandaki defeated Paropakar 25-10, 25-10; and Anal Jyoti tamed Bright Future 25-16, 25-14. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Krishna Shrestha struck four times and Nawaraj scored the other as Kumari Youth Club crushed Sri Kumari 5-1 in the Western Union Martyrs Memorial ‘C’ Division League Football. KATHMANDU: Prime Sports Club trounced Malpi College 84-13 at the third Fr Watrin Women’s Open Basketball Tournament riding on 25 points from Gyanu Gauchan. RIBS beat Wilson 54-30. Samriddhi Rai top-scored with 17 points for RIBS. Sangita Shrestha netted 20 as Shrine Academy outscored British School 59-29 and GAA sneaked past Shooters 43-42.
