U-23 beat U-17

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Under-23 football team defeated the ANFA Academy’s Under-17 team 2-0 in a friendly match played as a tuneup for the South Asian Games to be held in Colombo. Jumanu Rai and Yugal Kishor Rai scored a goal each for the SAG-bound team at the Dasharath Stadium. Pitted against Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan in Group ‘B’, Nepal will play its opener against Bangladesh on August 14 before taking on India (Aug 16) and Afghanistan (Aug 19). — HNS

Gyanodaya win

KATHMANDU: Young Heart School, Gyanodaya Bal Batika and Learning Realm International (LRI) School advanced to the quarter-finals of the second HIMS Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS), Himalaya International Model School (HIMS), St Xaviers’ School, Little Angels’ School and Namgyal HS School have already made it to the last eight.

On Tuesday, Young Heart School beat New Summit School 33-22. Tenzing Wangdu top-scored with 10 points for the winners. Gyanodaya registered a 64-21 win over Trungram International Academy riding on Namgel Lama’s 27 points. Jenish Thapaliya netted 19 points as LRI beat Shree Diwa 60-46. — HNS

Fr Watrin B’ball

KATHMANDU: Ajay Manandhar netted 31 points as Gyan Club edged past South Siders 79-61 in the third Fr Watrin Men’s Basketball Tournament. In another match, Keshang Dorje scored 35 points to help Bishal Milan Kendra beat Edmark Academy 71-43. Sudesh Pradhan scored 30 points and guided Don Bosco to a 52-47 win over Kathmandu Dudes while Shanker Dev beat Kathmandu College of Management 65-55 in which Rajiv Shakya of Shanker Dev scored 32 points. — HNS
