Ideal Model TT

KATHMANDU:

Canvas, Bijeshwori, Puspa Sadan and AIMS entered the girls’ team event semi-final at the Ideal Model Trophy Valleywide Inter-school Table Tennis Tournament. In boys’ team event, Ideal Model ‘A’, AVM, Ganesh Memorial and New Summit made it the last four. In all, 250 players from 28 schools are competing for 11 gold medals. Earlier, president of All Nepal Table Tennis Association Chaturananda Baidya inaugurated the tournament. Principal of Ideal Model Biraj Chhetri, senior coach Ramesh Raj Joshi, national coach Shankar Gautam and tournament coordinator Krishna Shrestha were also present on the occasion. — HNS

Solu-Sagarmatha Cup

KATHMANDU:

Solukhumbu-Kathmandu Sports Youth Group, under the auspices of Solukhumbu District Volleyball Association, is organising the Solu-Sagarmatha Cup National Open Volleyball Tournament from September 19-22 at National Sports Council. More than 12 teams including one each from Solukhumbu and Pokhara are expected to take part in the tournament. The winners will be richer by Rs 40,000 while the runners-up will walk away with Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The best player of the tournament will receove Rs 5,000. The estimated cost for the event is Rs 400,000, informed the organisers. “We have already invited top teams like Tribhuvan Army Club, Mahendra Police Club, Armed Police Force, Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre, and any interested team can enter the tournament,” said the organisers. — HNS

Sunrise badminton

KATHMANDU:

Sunrise Inter-school Badminton Tournament, under the auspices of Sunrise Boarding School, began here at National Sports Council today. Member secretary of National Sports Council Kishor Bahadur Singh and president of Nepal Badminton Association Prakash Bahadur Shahi jointly inaugurated the event. A total of 43 mathces were played on the first day of the tournament, which has been participated in by 143 players — 52 boys and 91 girls — of 19 schools. — HNS
