Deepa wins

LALITPUR: Yushi Choden of British School came first beating Sariya Bajracharya in the junior girls’ kata event at the Birthday Cup SKIF Inter-school and Open Karate Tournament organised by Nepal Shotokan Karate Association (SKIF). Deepa Thapa Magar and Juriya Bajracharya came joint third. In junior boys’ kata, Madan Maharjan came first, Pravin Badhyakar finished second whereas Raju Shah and Krishna Sapkota finished joint third. In men’s open kumite, Prakash Rai beat Madan Maharjan. In 55kg kumite, Bikky Dangol came first beating Manish Maharjan; Dinesh Chaudhari beat Rajendra Kumar Shrestha in 70kg team kumite. In senior men’s kata event, Bikky Dangol won beating Suman Awale while Bikram Raj Bajracharya and Pichesh Raj Karnikar came joint third. Deepa Thapa Magar finished first beating Saru Shrestha in the 30kg girls’ kumite while Geeta Shrestha and Radhika Maharjan came joint third. In 50kg women’s kumite, Hira Lama defeated Evan Rai.

Anuj Dangol won the 25kg boys’ kumite beating Janak Singh Karki; Sunil Kapali beat Bijay Thapa Magar in 45kg men’s kumite; Deewa Jung Basnet beat Sashwat Adhikari in 30kg men’s kumite; and Suraj Ghosh won the 20kg kumite beating Roku Prasad Nepal.

Open volleyball

KATHMANDU: Gyanendra Armed Police Force Officers’ Club defeated Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Club 25-5, 25-14, 26-24 and Mahendra Police Club beat Kavre District Volleyball Association 25-11, 25-7, 25-15 in the men’s section matches of the Birthday Cup Open Volleyball Tournament, which has been organised by Nepal Volleyball Association to mark the 59th birthday of King Gyanendra. Tribhuvan Army Club earned walkover from Sindhupalchowk

District Volleyball Association. In women’s section, Sarvottam Tank outplayed Anal Jyoti School ‘A’ 25-17, 27-25, 25-18 while Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Club earned a walkover from Kanya High School.
