Birthday Cup squash
LALITPUR: Hira Bahadur Thapa beat Lal Bahadur Gurung 3-0 and Suresh Gurung outplayed Dilip Adhikari by the same margin and entered the Men’s Open section semi-finals at the Open Squash Championship, which has been organised by Nepal Squash Rackets Association to mark the 59th birthday of King Gyanendra. In Masters’ Open section, Sudip Bahadur Singh routed Pramod Shrestha 3-0 and entered the semi-finals, while Gyanendra Khanal made it to the last eight with a 3-1 victory over Amar Shumsher Rana. Bhawana Sunuwar entered the Ladies’ Open semi-finals beating Nilima Malla 3-0, while Gyanu Chaudhary defeated Binit Shrestha 3-0 and Ken Ward outplayed Zonn Tyynala 3-0 in Boys’ Novice section.
Gillette badminton
KATHMANDU: Kusum Rai of Galaxy, Sudikshya and Nikita of Malpi, Sanu Giri and Sunita Gurung of Dipendra Police School, Smriti Tamang of Gillette, and Nabina Lama and Sabina Chalise of Arunima School entered the senior girls’ singles quarter-finals at the fourth Gillette Inter-school Badminton Championship. Rajan Siwa-koti, Abhiyan Phuyal, Kishor Rana and Sushil Bista of Dipendra Police School, Nibesh Tamrakar and Lokesh Regmi of Malpi School, Badal Limbu of Gillette School and Narayan Rana of Venus School made it to the last eight in the senior boys’ singles. In boys’ doubles section, Rajesh-Milan and Subin-Bishal of Grand Academy, Lokesh-Lakshya, Bijesh-Bardan and Kiran-Nibesh of Malpi, Moulidhana-Mahesh of Gillette, and Rajan-Abhiyan, and Kishor-Sushil of Dipendra Police School entered the quarter-finals.
NSKA release souvenir
KATHMANDU: President of Nepal Shotokan Karate Association (NSKA) Diwas Bikram Shah today released a souvenir published by the association on the occasion of the 59th birthday of King Gyanendra. The 52-page souvenir was brought out by a committee formed under the convenorship of NSKA general secretary Shanta Babu Thokar. In 2003, the NSKA had launched a souvenir on the occasion of the 33rd birthday of Crown Prince Paras. President of Nepal Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Association Sitaram Kandel, general secretary of Nepal Karate Federation and chief coach Purendra Bikram Lakha and other officials were also present on the occasion. — HNS
