Daffodils triumph

KATHMANDU: Daffodils edged past Unique School 58-50 in the boys’ section match at the seventh Gyan Niketan Basketball Tournament on Saturday. In other boys section matches, Valley Public beat LRI 34-29, Wilson Academy overcame VS Niketan 65-35 and Teresha eased past Don Bosco 56-27. In the girls’ section, Gyan Niketan sneaked to a 27-26 win over Mahendra Bhawan and Suryodaya overcame TIA 18-16. — HNS

BHAKTAPUR: Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Nepal Police won their respective matches at the fifth Nationwide Workers’ Cup Volleyball on Saturday. Madhyapur beat Kathmandu Alfa Beta Institute 25-17, 25-23, 25-13, APF rallied to a 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 win over EPS Manpower and Nepal Police defeated Jawalakhel Volleyball Club 25-16, 2-16, 25-17. — HNS

Rana, new NSA prez

LALITPUR: A second general meeting of Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) unanimously elected a 13-member central executive committee on Saturday. Pragun Shumsher Rana is the president while Gita Rana and Jagat Dhakwa are vice-president and general secretary respectively. Rajesh Bajracharya is the secretary and Ravi Singh the treasurer. Members include Yuvaraj Sunuwar, Naresh Baidhya, Ishwor Karki, Sudip Shrestha, Ram Nepali, Rajman Tuladhar and Jaya Prakash Gurung. A meeting of the newly formed committee today also nominated Amar Singh Shah and Umesh Shrestha as the other vice-presidents. Suresh Shrestha, Bipin Timla, Rajendra Shrestha and Nayana Shrestha have also been nominated as the members of the committee. — HNS

SEB Volleyball

KATHMANDU: New Diamond and Bright Future advanced to the girls’ section final at the third SEB Inter-school Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. New Diamond edged out Saptagandaki 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 while Bright Future advance following a walkover from Deep Jyoti. Deep Jyoti and Venus will vie for the boys’ championship. Deep Jyoti beat Gyan Kunja 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 and Venus ousted SEB ‘A’ 25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 26-24. — HNS

Sherpa nominated

KATHMANDU: The second general convention of the Himalayan Sherpa Club have nominated a 21-member committee under Karma Chhiring Sherpa here on Saturday. Chandra Bahadur Sherpa, Nima Tendup Sherpa and Gombu Dorje Sherpa are the first, second and third vice president respectively. Pasang Dorje Sherpa is the general secretary, Aang Gelu Sherpa Sherpa the secretary and Tenzing Sherpa the treasurer. — HNS

Kailali enter semis

MAHENDRA NAGAR: Kailali advanced to the semi-finals with the 2-0 victory over Bara in the 10th National Women’s Football Tournament on Saturday. Sita Thapa scored both the goals. Kailali will take on Nepal Armed Police Force Club in semi-finals on Sunday. — HNS

Classic lift trophy

BHAKTAPUR: Classic College International beat Kantipur City College (KCC) by 51 runs to lift the second Stupa Cup Cricket Tournament. Classic were all out for 117 runs in 24.4 overs and dismissed KCC for 126 in 23rd over. Kuldeep Khadka of Classic was named man of the match and the series. — HNS
