Bhandari triumphs

KATHMANDU: Toran Bhandari defeated Shiva Kumar Khadka in the final of the 20-25kg sparing at the first Manmohan Memorial National Taekwondo (ITF) Championship on Friday. Basanta Khatri beat Rupesh Shrestha to win the 25-30kg section gold. Other winners in men’s sparing included Rabin Thapa (30-35kg), Bikash KC (35-40kg), Chauchi Dangol (40-45kg), Manoj Chaudhary (60-65kg) and Hem Raj Thapa (above 65kg). Asmita Pathak (20-25kg), Puja Giri (25-30kg), Aasma Shrestha (30-35kg), Sashi Rana Magar (35-40kg), Nirmala Gurung (50-55kg) and Malati Tamang (55-60kg) won gold medals. In patron section, Hanok Limbu and Junu Rai (yellow belt), Sikam Limbu and Usha Shrestha (green), Rabin Rai and Binu Rana (blue), Sekhar Thapa and Tulasa Rajthala (red) and Nir Kumar Maharjan (black belt) won gold medals. — HNS

Thapa wins U-14 title

LALITPUR: Shagun Thapa and Sonam Punsuk won the Under-14 singles at the sixth Jaykar Memorial Junior National Open Tennis Tournament organised by Manjaykar Tennis Academy on Friday. In the girls’ section final, Thapa beat Pawitra Gurung 6-2, 6-3, while Punsuk defeated Niraj Wagle 6-1, 6-1 in boys’ final. Aslesa Lesano won the U-12 girls’ title beating Anushka Joshi 8-3, while Evan Lisanovich won the U-10 boys’ trophy with a 8-1 victory over Avay Gauchan. The other finals are slated for Saturday. — HNS

Maharjan advances

LALITPUR: Binod Maharjan entered the 55kg kick boxing final at the third BP Memorial Valleywide Karate and Kick Boxing Tournament that began here on Friday. Indra Tamang made it to the 50kg final. Alina Shah, Alina Khanal, Sebika Bamjan and Dipa Lama entered the girls’ 30kg karate semi-finals. Sharmila Tamang, Usha Poudel, Urmila GC and Renu Bista advanced to the girls’ 35kg semi-finals.Ratin Maharjan, Raju Khanal, Adhar Shahi and Prabin Manandhar made it to the boys’ 30kg semi-finals. Basanta Lama, Dinesh Bohara, Sagar Tamang and Nitesh Manandhar entered the boys’ 35 kg semis. In girls’ singles kata, Jyoti Giri, Suman Thokar, Dipa Shrestha and Maya Lama made it to the semi-finals. — HNS

Police School in final

KAVRE: Nepal Police School and Rupak Memorial School entered the final of the 16th IGP Cup Football Tournament. Nepal Police School outplayed 5-2 riding on Sujan Yonzon, while Rupak Memorial beat Little Angels’ School 3-1. The final is slated for Sunday at the Nepal Police School. — HNS
