Malika, Priti win women's doubles title

KATHMANDU: Malika Rana and Priti Rijal won the women's doubles title here at the 10th Nepal Investment Bank Open Tennis Tournament today.

Malika and Priti combined to beat Srija Karki and Sahun Thapa in final here at the Satdobato Lawn Tennis Court. Renu Bajracharya and Kalpana Thapa finished third. The winners and the runners-up received Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Both Malika and Priti also made it to the final of the women's singles event. Malika defeated Kalpana Thapa 6-3, 6-3 and Priti overcame Aslesha Lissanovitch 6-2, 6-1 in semi-finals.

Kumar Adhikari and Jitendra Pariyar have also set men's singles championship dates. Kumar inflicted a humiliating 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Hari Hayu while Jirendra saw off Raju Chhetri 6-2, 6-0 in the semi-finals.

Entering the men's veterans' singles (above-45yrs) were Krishna Raj Ghale and Kamal Thapa. Krishna Raj beat Uttam Lama 6-3, 6-4 and Kamal Thapa eased past Jhaygbu Dandup 6-2, 6-0. The duo of Gautam Lal Pradhan and Gyenendra Tamrakar beat Mohan Bahadur Shahi and Murari Bhakta Matheme 6-2, 6-3 while Madhukar Shumsher Rana and Indrajit Rai got walk over win from Capt MK Lama and Sahadev Dhungana in the semi-finals of the men's veterans' (above-55yrs) doubles.

Likewise, Manoj Rana and Sanu Lama defeated Rajesh Chhetri and Uttam Lama 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the men's veterans (above-35yrs) doubles. They will meet Chandra Shahi and Soviet Man Shrestha, who beat Suwarna Raj Dhakhwa and Krishna Raj Ghale, in the final.
