Manila outplays Sunita in U-14 final

Kathmandu, February 26:

Manila Shrestha of Kavre defeated Sunita Gurung of the same district 21-13, 21-8 to claim the U-14 girls’ singles title in the Central Region level Badminton Tournament held at the National Sports Council covered hall on Sunday. Silki Manandhar and Manisha Sasankar finished joint third in the same event.

Sajan Krishna Tamrakar of Lalitpur beat Sudeep Sedain of Kavre 21-13, 21-15 in the final of the Under-14 boys’ singles. Abhishek Bose of Kathmandu and Bishal Rai of Lalitpur came joint third.

Saugat Pulami of Lalitpur won the U-12 boys’ championship beating Pratik Budhathoki of Kavre in straight sets 21-12, 21-12 while Sahil Prashad Shrestha and Biswas Pun of Lalitpur were joint third.

In the U-12 girls’ singles final, Sushma Rai defeated Bina Thapa Magar of Kathmandu. Laxmi Sen Thakuri and Jesika Thapa of Kavre finished joint third.

A total of 40 players from Lalitpur, Kathmandu and Kavre had participated in the talent hunt programme organised by Kathmandu District Badminton Assocition. The top three winners have qualified for the national junior tournament.

The finalists in all the four events were also presented with a racket each.

President of Nepal Badminton Association Prakash Bahadur Shahi gave away prizes and certificates to the winners.
