Rana beats Sharma, advances to round of 16

Nepal’s Mayanka Rana advanced to the girls’ singles round of 16 in the Nepal ITF Juniors U-18 Tournament Circuit-II here the Satdobato Tennis Complex today.

Rana defeated India’s Khushi Sharma 6-3, 6-1 in the first round match. She joined her sister Mahika and Ira Mehernissa Rawat — who won their matches on Monday — in the pre-quarters

Similarly, India’s Hrudaya Shah outplayed Malaysia’s Chloe Chong Zhi Jing 6-3, 6-2, Japan’s Riko Kamiikura earned a double bagel against India’s Punyatoya Mohapatra and the Philippines’ Ma Carmencita Isabela Carlos beat India’s Priyanshi Sharma 6-2, 6-3.

In boys’ category, Nepal’s Ninwaam Rai faced a 6-0, 6-0 defeat at the hands of India’s Krishan Hooda,  while South Korea’s Jiho Lee saw off Japan’s Taiyo Hirano 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 and Chinese Taipei’s Chia-Fan Tsao beat India’s Iqbal Mohd Khan 6-3, 6-3 and Hong Kong’s Hon Chun Lee outplayed India’s Rohan Srivastava 6-3, 6-3.

In boys’ doubles, Nepal’s Pranav Khanal, who teamed up with Jiho Lee of South Korea, beat Sanmay Gandhi of USA and Keiju Miyaki of Japan 3-6, 6-2, 10-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals. Khanal had made it to the round of 16 in singles category on Monday.

Three Indian pairs advanced to the quarters. Prasanna Pravin Bagade/Vansh Bhagtani thrashed Thailand’s Tanapatt Nirundorn/Guntinun Sootinun Opart 6-3, 6-1, Naithaolin Calvin Golmei/Shashikant Rajput beat India’s Tarush Bagai and Hong Kong’s Chak Lam Coleman Wong 7-5, 6-2 and Tajasvi Mehra/Aaryan Zaveri saw off Nisan Shrestha of Nepal and Yuto Katougi of Japan 6-4, 6-0.

Likewise, India’s Anurag Agarwal and Poland’s Michal Wargocki outplayed Poland’s Tomasz Frankowsi and Laos’ Phathikone Kanyaphan 6-2, 6-2, while Chinese pair of Yangxuan Li and Wenmao Li beat Chinese Taipei’s Chia-Fan Tsao and Kai Shiang Yang 7-6(5), 3-6, 10-6 and Jingyuna Chen of China and Hong Chun Lee of Hong Kong beat Indian pair of Rishab Agarwal and Rohan Srivastava 3-6, 6-2, 12-10.

In girls’ doubles, Nepali duo of Abhilasha Bista and Ira Mehernissa Rawat thrashed Ai Mizumura of Japan and Prakriti Shrestha of Nepal 6-0, 6-2 and the Rana sisters of Mahika and Mayanka beat Indian duo of Srinidhi Sridhar and Zaffar Raina 6-3, 6-1.

Likewise, Anne Mathema and Catherine Mathema of Nepal faced a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Indian duo Hrudaya Shah and Trisha Vinod, while Nepal’s Prerana Koirala, who teamed up with India’s Punyatoya Mohapatra, suffered a 6-2, 6-1 defeat against India’s Aspreet Kaur Bajwa and Prinkle Singh. Also, Saloni Tamang of Nepal and India’s Khushi Sharma went down 6-3, 6-2 to Chinese Taipei’s Skia Kung and Hong Kong’s Chui Kei Leung. Likewise, USA’s Rutuja Chaphalkar and Mio Kozaki of Japan won 6-4, 2-1 after Malaysia’s Chloe Chong Zhi Jing and India’s Sana Khanna abandoned the match on medical grounds.
