Morang hold NPC; JYC triumph

Lalitpur, June 3

Morang and Nepal Police Club played a 1-1 draw, while Royal Treasurer Jawalakhel Youth Club thrashed New Road Team 3-0 in the Lalit Memorial U-18 championship here at the ANFA Complex grounds today.

The NPC took an early lead through a goal from Rajiv Lopchan in the fourth minute of the match before NPC levelled the scores in the 17th minute when Bijay Kumar Pokhrel found the back of the nets.

The result meant, CMG Club Sankata, who were not in action today, made it to the quarter-finals from Group D. Sankata have six points and will play next against NPC, who have four points and need a points from their final match to qualify for the last eight. Morang have one point, while Brigade Boys Club made early exit with two straight defeats.

NPC coach Ananta Thapa said he was satisfied with the result as they had planned to snatch at least one point from the match. “We wanted at least a point from the match if not a win. I am happy with the way the boys performed because

we had a very short preparation for this championship,” he added.

In another match of day, JYC thumped NRT riding on a brace from Sushant Chaudhary. Aruj Singh opened the scoring for JYC in the 29th minute before Chaudhary scored in the 76th and 90th minutes to seal the first three points for the team.

Jagadamba Lumbini Football Club lead the table with six points, while JYC and Himalayan Sherpa Club have three each. NRT, who faced their second straight defeat, are out of contention.
