MPC beat Armed Police, BBC win

Kathmandu, February 4:

Jumanu Rai’s solitary goal gave Mahendra Police Club (MPC) a 1-0 win over Gyanendra Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club while Brigade Boys Club (BBC) defeated Mahabir Club 3-2 in Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League matches at Dasharath Stadium.

Machhindra Club and Friends’ Club played a 2-2 draw and so did Boys’ Union Club (BUC) and Jawala-khel Youth Club (JYC) in other mat-ches at the Armed Police Stadium.

The 25-yard spectacular goal in the seventh minute was enough for MPC to earn three clear points despite APF’s repeated assult throughout the game. APF was close to equalising in the 32nd mintue but Mani Pandit ended up hitting the cross bar when a simple chip was enough. APF goalie Sammit Rajbhandari made a brilliant save on Jumanu’s powerful shot from close range.

In the second game, Sanjiv Tamang, Obagbemiro Junior and Raju Rai scored for BBC while Ikechikwu Akushie and Bakham Rana found the nets for Mahabir. Tamang provided the lead to BBC in the 16th minute but Akushie levelled the scores in the 41st.

Junior came up with a praiseworthy goal to put BBC in the lead again in the 60th minute, which took his tally to 21, two more than TSC’s Surendra Tamang and MMC’s Basanta Thapa.

Raju Rai had an easy job tapping in following She-khar Limbu’s cross in the 77th minute to make it 3-1. Rana reduced the mar-gin to 3-2 in the second half injury time but it was too late by then.

At Halchowk, Friends’ Club came from two goals down for a 2-2 draw against Machhindra. Madan Rai put Machhindra ahead in the 29th minute and Buddha Chemjong doubled the tally in the 60th minute. Friends’ scored two goals in eight minutes to earn a point. Ukesh Shrestha pulled one back in the 80th minute and Chuka Ocete levelled in the 88th minute.

The second game was also similar to that of the first one as JYC made a promising come back. Mark D Afama scored first in the 17th minute and Utsav KC doubled the lead in the 47th minute for BUC. Jude scored both the goals for JYC to earn a point. Jude scored the first goal in the 54th and added another four minutes later.
