National Karate C’ship in Nov

Nepal Karate Federation is set to organise the National Karate Championship at the National Sports Council covered hall from November 9-11 to select players for the national team.

The tournament will feature a total of 13 weight categories, including men’s seven and women’s six events, as well individual and team kata for men and women, informed tournament coordinator Deepak Shrestha at a press meet today.

A total of 210 karatekas, including 110 men and 100 women, from three departmental teams — Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club and Nepal APF Club — and seven States will take part in the tournament.

The men’s event will feature below-50kg, below-55kg, below-60kg, below-67kg, below-75kg, below-84kg and above-84kg weight categories as well as individual and team kata, while women karatekas will fight in below-45kg, below-50kg, below-55kg, below-61kg, below-68kg and above-68kg as well as individual and team kata.

Shrestha informed a total of 21 gold medallists of the tournament would be selected for the national team. Meanwhile, the Federation also felicitated 10th South Asian Games gold medallist karateka Sulochana Sijakhwa.
