Nationwide Badminton C’ships from September 8
KATHMANDU: The Nationwide Open Badminton Championships is scheduled here from September 8 to 12.
Nepal Police Central Sports Committee is organising the championships to mark the 56th Police Day which will see around 350 shuttlers from across the nation vying for the titles.
In all, seven events will be played in the tournament including Men and Women’s Singles and Doubles, Veteran’s Doubles and Under-16 Girls and Boys’ Singles, informed the organisers here at a press meet today.
The winner in the men’s singles will receive a purse of Rs 50,000 while women’s singles winner will take home Rs 40,000 apart from Rs 30,000 and Rs 24,000 to the runners up in the respective categories.
Losing semi-finalists in both the Men’s and Women’s Singles will also share Rs 20,000 and Rs 16, 000 respectively as there will be no third place play-offs, informed the organisers.
The organising committee coordinator, AIG Rabindra Pratap Shah said that Nepal Badminton Association (NBA) has recognised the tournament as a national event whereby the shuttlers’ performance during the event would make difference in their rankings .
In Men’s Doubles, the winners will get Rs 40,000 and the runners will earn Rs 24,000. The losing semi-finals will also get their share of Rs 20,000 each.
Likewise, the top two teams in the Women’s and Veterans’ Doubles will take home Rs 30,000, Rs 18,000 respectively while the losing semi-finalists will share Rs 16,000 each. Players above 50-years are only eligible to participate in the veteran’s section, said the organisers.
Winners in the U-16 Boys’ and Girls’ Singles categories will get Rs 20, 000 and Rs 16,000 respectively while the runners up will earn Rs 12,000. Losing semi-finalists in these junior categories will also share Rs 10,000 each. The 1.6 million tournament offers Rs 472,000 as a prize money and will be played under the technical assistance of the NBA.
