Nepal APF to organise three national-level tournaments

The Central Sports Committee of Nepal Armed Police Force is organising three national-level tournaments March 11-16 with the total cash purse of Rs 1.76 million.
The 14th edition of the Krishna Mohan Open Badminton Championship features 10 events - men's singles and doubles, women's singles and doubles, mixed doubles, U-17 boys and girls, above-45 veteran doubles, above-55 veteran doubles and Master above-35 for government officials. Around 400 players are expected to take part in the championship which will be held at the Nepal APF Club covered hall, informed Central Sports Committee Chairman AIG Shailendra Khanal at a press meet today.
The tournament carries a cash purse of Rs 710,000. Top two in men's singles and doubles will receive Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively, while the women's singles winner will get Rs 50,000 with runner-up earning Rs 25,000.
Nepal Badminton Association President Ramji Bahadur Shrestha said the tournament was the second biggest in terms of participation and ranking points.
“We award 1,000 ranking points to the champion of national tournament, while the winner of this event will get 900 points,” said Shrestha. “And this championship is also participated in by a huge number of players and we are restricting it to 450 this year,” he added.
Likewise, the 10th Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Championship features 13 events - men's singles and doubles, women's singles and doubles, six categories in veteran singles and doubles and Master event for government officials. The matches will be played at Satdobato Tennis Complex and APF courts.
The tournament carries a cash purse of Rs 595,000. Top three players in men's and women's singles will earn Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, while top two in doubles categories will get Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000.
Also, seven teams will take part in the APF IG fifth Open Women's Volleyball Tournament, which will be played under league-cum-knock out format. Out of the total cash purse of Rs 455,000, top three teams will receive Rs 250,000, Rs 125,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. Likewise, the best spiker, server, defender, blocker, setter and coach will be rewarded with Rs 5,000 each.
“We have been organising these tournaments with an aim of promoting Nepali sports and players,” said AIG Khanal. “Nepal APF have produced champion athletes who have shined in international stage making the department and the country proud. At present, we have been focusing in 21 disciplines,” he added.
