Nepal APF shoot Army out in final

Kathmandu, November 28

Nepal APF Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 4-2 in tie breaker to win the title of the sixth CoAS Women’s International Football Tournament here today

The match was decided on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the regulation period. Anita Basnet put APF ahead in the 41st minute following a pass from Saru Limbu.

The hosts levelled the scores through Bimala Chaudhary’s goal in the 61st minute. She found the back of the nets in counter attack after she slammed home from close range.

The match went to shootout after both the teams could not score in extra time.

Sabitra Bhandari, Renuka Nagarkote, Anita Basnet and Anu Lama converted their kicks from the spot for APF, while Gita Rana failed to score

For TAC,  Anjana Rana Magar and Nisha Bohara scored from the spot, whereas skipper Krishnaa Khatri and Indira Rai were not able to convert their kicks.

Champions APF received Rs 300,000, while TAC bagged Rs 150,000. Losing semi-finalists Nepal Police Club and Province 2 earned Rs 50,000 each.

A total of 12 teams — one each from seven provinces and three departmental teams along with two from India — took part in the tournament. Chief of the Army Staff Gen Purna Chandra Thapa handed over prizes to the winners of the tournament.
