Nepal No 1 pro Shrestha’s team wins Pro-Am title

The team of pro Shiva Ram Shrestha and three amateurs won the title of the Surya Nepal Western Open Pro-Am event here at the Himalayan Golf Course today.
Pro Shrestha and the team of amateurs Prakash Gurung, Prakash Ban and Basant Gauchan accumulated 163 points to win the trophy. Pro Shrestha scored 39 points, while Gurung earned 42 and Ban and Gauchan scored 41 each.
The team of pro Dhana Bahadur Thapa (39) and amateurs Roshan BK (38), Gyan Kaji Gurung (38) and Jay Nugent (38) finished second with the total score of 153 points. The team of pro Surya Prasad Sharma (36) and amateurs Vivek Sen Gurung (38), Arun Dev Acharya (37) and Sanjeev Tiwari (36) came third with the score of 147 points.
Prakash Gurung won the best individual score award with 42 points, while Pratima Sherpa bagged women’s section title with 34 points. Basant Raj Gurung won the longest drive award and Arun Dev Acharya lifted the closest-to-the-pin trophy.
A total of 68 players including 17 pros participated in the Pro-Am event played under the stableford full handicap format. The top scoring pro was teamed up with the best three amateurs for the winning team. Similarly second best pro was teamed up with fourth, fifth and sixth amateur scorers for second position, while third best pro got the seventh, eighth and ninth amateurs for the third place.
The 54-hole main event, Surya Nepal Western Open, yesterday with Shivaram Shrestha winning the 33rd career title with record breaking nine-under 201.
NPGA President Rabindra Man Shrestha, NGA President Madhukar Yakthumba, Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire and Kaski District Golf Association President Maj LP Gurung handed over prizes to the winners.
