Nepal to host Asian Mountain Bike Championship

Kathmandu, August 23:

Nepal will host the 14th Asian Mountain Bike Championship here on November 6-10.

The date and the venue were finalised after Nepal Cycling Association (NCA) and Asian Cycling Federation (ACF) signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing. The NCA president Chimmi Urgen Gurung and general secretary of ACF Cho Hi singed the MoU recently in Beijing.

Around 200 cyclists from 22 nations are expected to take part in the tournament which features two events — cross country and downhill race.

The estimated costs would be around Rs 15 million, said Gurung. The ACF will provide technical support and Gurung expects the Nepal government to chip in 20 per cent of the total costs. Meanwhile, the ACF general assembly will also be held in Nepal during the Asian Mountain Bike Championship. The ACF has proposed an executive committee meeting here on November 4-5.
