Nepal U12 boys qualify for ITF Asian Team C'ship

KATHMANDU: Nepal's junior (12 & under) tennis team (Boys) will lock horns with India in the final of ITF Asian Team Championship South Asian Qualifier being held in Dhaka, the Capital city of Bangladesh today.

The boys and girls teams are representing Nepal as a part of the Nepal Tennis Association (NTA).

The Nepali boys' team on Thursday won the semi-final against Bangladesh to reach the final of qualifier. And now, Nepal qualify to play the Asian championship in Kazakstan. The boys' team is fighting for the 1st position from South Asia today.

In the boys' competition against Bangladesh, Nepal's Aarav Hada scored 6-3/6-1 while Pranav Manandhar scored 2-6/4-6(lost) and Aarav/ Pranav Doubles won 6-1/6-1

Although, the girls' team made it to the semis, Sri Lankan girls' team prevented the former from qualifying to play the finals in Kazakstan.

From the Junior Nepal U12 (girls) Tennis Team side, Prasamsa Moktan lost 1-6/0-6, Eva Adhikari won 6-2/6-3. In the doubles match, they lost 2-6/0-6 against Sri Lanka.

Nepal's boys team comprises Aarav Samrat Hada of St Xavier’s Jawalakhel, Pranav Manandhar of Kasthamandap Vidyalaya, Saskyam B Shah of Little Angels School, and Coach Krishna Raj Ghale. Likewise, the girls' team led by coach Atmaram Karki comprises Eva Adhikari of St. Mary's School, Prasamsa Moktan of Premier International School, and Jenny Khadka of Brihaspati Vidyashram.

Currently, Nepal's boys team top the rank in its pool after defeating Maldives with a comfortable 3-0 victory and a 2-1 victory over Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

This is the third year Nepal U12 team have qualified for the Asian Championship in Kazakhstan and have placed itself in the top Asian tennis scene by placing itself 7th in the 2018 event held in Astana, Kazakhstana.

At the finals meet of ITF Asian 12&U Team Championship, a total of twelve countries from each region of Asia will be participating, including China, Japan, Korea. Only two countries will qualify for the finals meet being held in Kazakhstan.
