KATHMANDU: Nepal collected a total of 60 medals, including three gold, 23 silver and 34 bronze, in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) as all the competitions in the regional sports gala held in the North East India ended on Tuesday.

Nepali players added three bronze medals in the medal tally in the events of judo on the final day of competitions today.

Hosts India dominated the medal tally, racking up a haul of 308 medals that included 188 gold.

Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh finished second, third, fourth and fifth respectively above sixth-placed Nepal.

Maldives and Bhutan are returning home without any gold medal.

Nepal clinched gold in men's football, and women's wushu and judo, while taekwondo remained goldless for the first time.

Meanwhile, Nepal will host the next edition of SAG in 2018. The SAG flag will be handed over to Nepal's Sports Minister Satyanarayan Mandal at the closing ceremony in Guwahati this evening.

Nepal's capital Kathmandu  had hosted the first edition of SAG in 1984, and the eighth edition in 1999.

The 12th SAG was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Guwahati on February 5.
