Nepali batsmen exhibit confidence for WCL Championship

KATHMANDU: Hong Kong declared their first innings at the score of 215 for the loss of four wickets at 60 overs.

At the two-day practice match being played at Shikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, the openers had given a solid start to Hong Kong and had put in a stand of 61 before failing to Basanta Regmi.

Nepal are playing against Hong Kong to prepare for the World Cricket League Championship matches against Papua New Guinea, scheduled for November 16 and 18.

Babar Hayat top-scored for Hong Kong with 68 unbeaten runs off 107 balls with 9 fours at a strike rate of 63.55.

Regmi was the pick of the Nepali bowlers with the figure of 13-01-45-02 at a strike rate of 3.46.

In reply, Nepal managed to score 106 runs for the loss of one wicket at the end of day one.

Nepal lost Mahesh Chettri as the first wicket at the end of sixth over with the score of 21 runs on the board. He was caught by Anshuman Rath of Tanwir AFzal bowling. He managed to score 10 runs off 24 balls with 2 fours.

Nepal are still 109 runs behind. Anil Mandal and Sagar Pun remained unbeaten at the close of the play.

Mandal and Pun were unbeaten on 56 and 38 runs respectively.

They shared the unbeaten second wicket partnership of 85 runs from 174 balls at a run rate of just 2.93.

Mandal had scored 56 runs off 104 balls with 10 fours at a strike rate of 53.84.

Earlier, Hong Kong had won the toss and elected to bat first.
