Former Australian international cricketer Brett Lee was announced as the mentor of the NepalT20, official premier league of Cricket Association of Nepal, here today.
The fastest bowler of the world in his playing days, Lee arrived in Kathmandu yesterday on an invitation from Seven3Sports, the strategic and commercial partner of the NepalT20. Lee today launched the Ssixer, NepalT20's official mobile app and global streaming partner. Ssixer will live stream NepalT20 matches.
"I am excited to be a part of NepalT20 and Ssixer. It's simply amazing to see the talent of cricket here and I am confident that NepalT20 will help spread the popularity of cricket in Nepal," Lee said. Lee will inspire young cricketers from Nepal to excel and improve the level of cricket in Nepal.
Asked about Nepali cricket, Lee said he was aware of the sport and Nepali players. "Definitely, I know about Nepali cricket as it is a cricket playing nation. Nepal's fast bowler (Binod Das) is here woth us. He is a star and I believe he can do a lot for the development of Nepali cricket in future," he said. Lee said Nepal cricket needed exposure. "Youth players will get better with exposure, and it will help them come forward strongly. And exposure is the key in both men and women cricket," he added.
Prashant Malla, acting secretary of CAN said: "We are delighted, excited and honored by Brett Lee's joining as Mentor for NepalT20. This will be a big boost not only for the players of NepalT20 but also inspire local talent to pursue their dreams of playing cricket for Nepal".
Lee, who played for Australia in all three forms of the game from 1999 to 2012, retired with Australian record of 380 wickets in One Day Internationals. He played 76 Tests, 221 ODIs and 25 T20Is. He also equalled Glen McGrath's ODI record of 380 wickets, while he claimed 310 wickets in Tests.
"Ssixer will spread the live action, video highlights, match details, team rankings and exciting stories of NepalT20 on the move...on the go," said Aditya Ahluwalia, Co-founder of Ssixer, a London-based team of young digital professionals.
CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand welcomed Brett Lee to Nepal and said he was grateful to him for associating with NepalT20. "We also welcome young professional team of Ssixer to contribute with their digital expertise to help grow NepalT20 in today's fast growing digital landscape," Chand said.
