New Diamond, Newton advance to girls’ final

New Diamond Academy and Everest Boarding School advanced to the girls’ section final of the first PABSON U-18 National Volleyball Tournament here today.

Shivam NDA defeated Paramount School, while Everest outplayed Tops High School with identical scores of 3-0 in the semi-final matches.

NDA won with ease as they conceded just seven and six points in the first and third sets, while Paramount managed 17 in the second. Kripa Adhikari of NDA was named the player of the match.

In another semi-final match, Butwal’s Everest School outplayed Pokhara’s Tops. Everest rode on player-of-the-match Poonam Chand’s allround performance to register a 25-13, 25-19, 25-16 victory to set the final date with NDA. Tops earned the chance to compete in the semi-final after their successful protesting against Dhorpatan Sports Club. Dhorpatan had defeated Tops in the semi-final yesterday.

In the boys’ section, Newton High School made it to the final and will face Sacred Heart Academy. Newton registered a 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 win over Little Buddha Academy of Kanchanpur riding on allround performance from Ajay Sunuwar. Earlier, Newton beat Dhorpatan Sports Club 3-0 in the quarter-final match.

In another semi-final match, Sacred Heart Academy came from a set down to beat Bungtang Volleyball Association of Nuwakot 3-1. Bungtang took a lead with a 23-25 victory in the first set before Sacred Heart bounced back to win the next three sets 25-22, 25-18, 25-21. Anuj Chaudhary of Sacred Heart was named the man-of-the-match.

The finals are slated for Sunday. Top three teams in both the sections will earn Rs 100,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively.
