Kathmandu, February 6

Hongwanji New Diamond Youth Sports Club upset defending champions Nepal APF Club 3-1 in the last league match of the sixth KNP Nerolac Women's National Volleyball Tournament here at the NSC covered hall today.

Both the teams had already advanced to final and New Diamond finished at the top of the table with maximum nine points from three matches, while APF were second with six. New Diamond won first two sets 25-21 and 25-19 before APF reduced the deficit with a 25-21 victory in the third set. New Diamond completed the victory after they took the fourth set 25-21.

Salina Budha Magar of New Diamond was named the player of the match and she received Rs 10,000.

In another match, Nepal Police Club beat Tribhuvan Army Club 3-1 for their first victory. As both the teams were already out of the race and certain to contest in the third-place match, the outcome of the game carried no significance. NPC finished third with three points, while TAC remained at the bottom.

NPC came from a set down to beat TAC 24-26, 26-24, 26- 24, 25-20. Manisha Chaudhary of NPC was declared the player of the match and she earned Rs 10,000. The thirdplace playoff match between NPC and TAC and the final between New Diamond and APF are slated for Tuesday.

A total of four teams are taking part in the tournament organised by Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation under the sponsorship of KNP Nerolac paints. The winners of the four-day tournament will receive Rs 300,000, while the runners-up and third place teams will earn Rs 150,000 and Rs 75,000 respectively.

The best player of the tournament will get Rs 50,000, while the best server, defender, setter, libero, spiker and coach will receive Rs 15,000 each. The emerging player will receive Rs 15,000, while player of the match will get Rs 10,000.
