LALITPUR: Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police Club (NPC), Sanju Lama of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Shilu Dangol of Makwanpur made it to the women’s 54kg semi-finals of the second Nationwide Open Boxing Championships here today.

Nisha beat Rina Maharjan of Tikathali, Sanju saw off Bimala Chaudhary of Dang and Shilu overcame Elisha Century of Dang in the quarter-finals. Nisha will take on Sunita Nagarkoti, who had a bye in the quarter-final, while Sanju will face Shilu in the last four. Pramila Rai of Jhapa saw off Punam Gurung of Salyan in the women’s 60kg quarter-final match. Pramila will meet Indu Nagarkoti of Meghdoot in the semi-final.

Making it to the semi-finals of the men’s 48kg category were Laxman Shilakar of Central Boxing, Hasta Bahadur GM of Dang, Surendra Dalami of Chitwan and Dhrista Kumar Shahi of Surkhet. Laxman defeated Anil Gautam of Rolpa, Hasta Bahadur dispatched Manoj Maharjan of Nepal Youth Boxing, Surendra overcame Chandra Jyoti Thapa of Dang Boxing Club and Dhrista Kumar got the better of Suresh Budha Magar of Boshigaun in the quarter-finals.

Entering the semi-finals in the men’s 54kg category were Satyaram Kiju of Patan Boxing, Suman Lama of Makwanpur, Puran Rai of APF and Dhirendra Chand of Kanchanpur. Likewise, Purna Bahadur Lama of APF beat Narendra Khati of Kanchanpur, Yogesh Gurung of Dhading overcame Nilkantha Khanal of Kapilvastu, Gopal Shrestha of Rupendehi saw off Dhan Kumar Mainali of Tikathali and Surendra Karki of Tikathali dispatched Bijay Shrestha of Makwanpur in the men’s 57kg quarter-finals.

Also in the men’s 60kg quarter-finals, Surendra Bahadur Kadayat of NPC defeated Rajan Prajapati of Tikathali, Prakash Basnet of APF saw off Diwakar Oli of Rolpa, Manish Sherma of Tikathali eliminated Dipendra Shrestha of Makwanpur and Narendra Maharjan of Boshigaun saw off Surendra Shrestha of Central Boxing.

Bikash Bal Lama of APF, Birendra Singh of Banke

and Rajan Budhathoki

of Tikathali also advanced

to the semi-finals of the men’s 64kg category.
