No 1 pro Shrestha claims Tour Championship

Nepal No 1 pro Shivaram Shrestha won the title of the Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Top seed Shrestha carded fourth straight one-under 71 for the total score of four-under 284 in the seventh edition of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17.
Shrestha claimed the fifth title of the season and took his personal tally to 35 major trophies. He also equalled his own record of winning five titles in a single season.
Shrestha, who went into the final round with two-shot lead over fellow RNGC pro Surya Prasad Sharma, registered a five-stroke victory. He received Rs 100,000 along with the trophy.
Sharma shot two-over 74 for a total score of one-over 298 to finish second. Sharma, who led the field for the first two days, earned Rs 70,000.
Sanjay Lama (74) of Army Club was third at two-over 290 and received Rs 50,000, while RNGC’s Rame Magar (73) and home club pro Bhuwan Nagarkoti (72) shared the fourth position at four-over 289 and earned Rs 37,500 each. Rajendra Thapa Magar (74) was sixth at 295 and got Rs 30,000.
Jayaram Shrestha (73) and Rabi Khadka (77) were tied for seventh at 11-over 299, while Pashupati Sharma (75) was ninth at 303. Army club pro Dhana Thapa (71) finished 10th at 304.
Tanka Bahadur Karki won the amateur section trophy. Karki shot one-over 73 to post a commanding total of four-over 292. Tenzing Tsering finished second after he produced the best card of the day carding two-under 70 for a total score of seven-over 295.
A total of 40 players — 33 pros and 7 amateur golfers — took part in the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17.
The tournament carried a total cash purse of Rs 600,000. Vice-President Sales and Marketing of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Dipra Lahiri and President of Nepal Golf Association Tashi Ghale handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
