KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 8
The 11th edition of the Pakistan–Nepal Friendship T20 Cricket Tournament 2026 was inaugurated on Friday by the Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, Abrar H. Hashmi, marking the start of a week-long sporting event aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
According to the press release issued by the embassy, the opening ceremony was attended by sports enthusiasts, media representatives, friends of Pakistan, and officials from the Pakistan–Nepal Association of Nepal (PNAN), Global IME Bank, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), and the Youth Council. Speakers at the event appreciated the Pakistani Embassy's continued initiative in organising the annual tournament, highlighting cricket's role in uniting youth and promoting friendship.
This year's tournament features 12 teams, including 10 club teams along with teams representing the Embassy of Pakistan and Global IME Bank, the embassy addd.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Hashmi said cricket is not only a sport but also a powerful platform for fostering camaraderie, teamwork and mutual understanding. He extended best wishes to the participating teams and thanked the organisers and partners for their support in conducting the event.
The tournament will conclude on February 15 with the final match and a closing ceremony featuring the distribution of trophies and cash prizes. All matches are being broadcast live on Action Sports HDI and streamed through social media platforms.
