Tiwari wins Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal title

Rabindra Tiwari won the first edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under full handicap stroke play format, the 17-handicap amateur golfer Tiwari carded three-under 69 nett to win the trophy. Ang Dendi Sherpa finished second on count back after he was tied on two-over 74 with Dhruba Thapa, who came third.

Gopal Chitrakar won the gross section trophy with the score of 11-over 83, while Sam Doublard was the best among junior players with the score of one-under 71 nett. In all, 30 players took part in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd.  Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.

A total of 10 medal rounds will be played until December with top 10 golfers in nett section and five apiece in gross and junior categories earning points in each of the events. After 10 tournaments, top 40 in nett, 10 in gross and five in junior sections will qualify for the club championship finals. The finals will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.

After the first edition, Tiwari leads the nett section table with 100 points, while Gopal Chitrakar is second with 60. Ang Dendi Sherpa is third on 40 points, ahead of Dhruba Thapa (35) and Pavita Karki (30).

In gross category, Chitrakar is at the top with 100 points, while Ang Dendi Sherpa is second with 60 points and Dhurba Thapa third with 40. In junior category, Sam Doublard is at the top with 100 points, ahead of Tanush Sanghai (60) and Phurba Sherpa (40).
