KATHMANDU: Gajendra Rai and Purna Laxmi Neupane won the Inter-Municipality National Cross Country Race at the Chandragiri Municipality on Saturday.
Rai from Halesi Municipality completed the 10km race in 32 minutes and 26 seconds to finish first in the men's section. Narendra Singh Rawal came second in 32:38 and Sanjay Shrestha was third in 33:12. In the women's section, Neupane from Chandannath Municipality finished first in 41:30, while Sumitra Chaudhary (42:55) and Anita Rai (46:04) came second and third respectively.
Top three athletes in both categories received Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Krish Bahadur Pariyar of Pokhara and Asmita Bhujel of Tarakeshwor won 5km races. Likewise, Halesi Municipality and Bhojpur Municipality claimed team event titles.
Municipal Association of Nepal President Bhim Prasad Dhungana, Chandragiri Municipality Mayor Ghana Shyam Giri, Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Khadgi, Athletics Family Nepal President Rajan Khatri among others handed over the prizes to the winners.
The organisers also felicitated legendary marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar and Rajendra Bhandari at the closing ceremony.
