KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 22

Nepali professional golfer Sukra Bahadur Rai earned a share of 38th position in the Pune Open under the Professional Golf Tour of India on Saturday.

Rai played one-over 67 in the final round of the INR four million event at the par-66 Poona Golf Club to drop five places down and share 38th position with two Indian pros - Shravan Desai (69) and Manish Thakran (69) - at three-under 261. They earned INR 35,480 each.

The Dharan-based golfer began the final round from the 10th tee. Rai carded even-par 36 on his front nine before playing one-over 31 on the latter half. He saved pars on 17 holes and faced a bogey on the eighth. Rai began the campaign with an even-par 66 before firing two-under 64 each in the second third rounds.

Rai has so far played 14 events in his debut PGTI season making cuts in seven tournaments.

His best performance so far is the eighth-place finish in the PGTI Players Championship in Haryana earlier this month.

He has earned a total amount of INR 408,558 and is at the 67th position in Order of Merit, with six more events remaining in the season. Top 60 players after the completion of the season will keep their card for next season.

Veer Ahlawat of India claimed the title with an impressive score of 19-under 245 after he carded four-under 62 in the final round.

Kapil Kumar (64) finished second at 16-under, while India's Yashas Chandra MS (60) and Sri Lankan N Thangaraja (64) shared third place at 15-under 249. Indian duo Manu Gandas (61) and Rashid Khan (63) were tied for fifth at 14-under 250.
