Tamang, Shrestha advance to quarters, Sharma wins

Former champion Ratnajit Tamang of Tribhuvan Army Club advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals of the Yonex Sunrise sixth Pushpa Lal Memorial National Open Badminton Tournament here today.

Tamang saw off Saroj Ansari of Nepalgunj Badminton Academy 21-10, 21-7 to make it to the last eight.

Similarly, TAC’s Nabin Shrestha outplayed Irfan Ansari of Nepalgunj 21-9, 21-14 and Praful Maharjan of Kailali 21-15, 21-17 and made it to the quarters.

Also, Sudeep Sedhai of Nepal APF Club defeated teammate Bijit Thapa Magar 21-16, 21-19, APF’s Sajan Krishna Tamrakar defeated Nir Bikram Devkota of Perfect Fitness 21-19, 18-21, 21-13, Dipesh Dhami of Nepal Police Club beat Dilendra Pun of TAC 21-6, 21-10 and Pawan Acharya of Perfect Fitness outplayed TAC’s Prabin Linthep 16-21, 21-12, 21-11 and advance to the last eight.

In women’s category, Samjhana Sharma of Banke defeated Zest Badminton Academy’s Sita Rai 21-15, 23-25, 21-17, while TAC’s Rashila Maharjan outplayed Jessica Gurung of Zest 21-15, 21-19 to enter the quarters. In men’s doubles, the TAC pair of Ratnajit Tamang and Nabin Shrestha as well as the pair of Sudeep Sedhai of APF and Irafan Ansari of Nepalgunj advanced to the quarter-finals.

Likewise, APF duo of Suman Limbu and Bijit Thapa Magar and the pair of Bimal Shrestha and Bishal Pradhan, while NPC’s Bishnu Katwal and Dipesh Dhami as well as pair of Deepak Bohara and Gautam Kathayat sailed in the last eight.

Perfect Fitness duo of Jeevan Acharya and Nir Bikram Devkota and the pair of Sasin Dangol and Dipesh Shakya of Lalitpur also advanced to the quarters.
