Rising outplay APF, claim Attariya Cup crown

Rising Cricket Women won the title of the Ruslan Attariya Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament here at the APF grounds today.

Rising defeated Nepal APF Club by 16 runs in the final of the tournament.

Opting to bat first, Rising scored 152-5 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting the departmental side APF to 136-9.

Rising had a bright start with the bat as openers Pooja Nimavat (37 off 38) and Shahanaz Parbin (run-a-ball 25) put on 69 runs inside the 10 overs. Nimavat hit four boundaries and Parbin cracked three fours.

Shampa Mukharjee smashed four boundaries in her 18-ball 23, while Shanti Khatiwada scored an unbeaten 14-ball 21 with the help of three boundaries that helped Rising reach a mammoth total.

Nery Thapa, who hit one each four and six, scored 13 off just nine balls and Arati Bidari also reached double figures scoring run-a-ball 13.

APF’s Sarita Magar (3-29) and Karuna Bhandari (2-24) shared five wickets between them.

In reply, APF failed to achieve the target despite three batters scoring in double figures.

Opener Jyoti Pandey scored 41-ball 48 with the help of five boundaries, while Karuna Bhandari contributed 20-ball 24 hitting five fours. Sarita Magar scored run-a-ball 21 that included two boundaries.

APF had a mediocre run chase as they lost opener Indu Barma (three) in 2.3 overs with only 18 runs on the board. Pandey added 31 runs with Sarita Magar for the second wicket to revive the innings and also shared a 44-run stand with Karuna Bhandari for the third wicket but she did not get enough support from the other end.

Magar departed in the fifth ball of the eighth over and Bhandari lost her wicket in fifth ball of the 15th over.

Rising’s Pooja Nimavat, who was named the player-of-the-final, was the most destructive bowler taking 4-17, while Shahanaz Parbin and Kriti Sen Thakuri picked up one wicket apiece.

Champions Rising claimed Rs 200,000, while runners-up APF got Rs 100,000.

Rising’s Nimavat, who scored 107 runs and claimed 11 wickets, was named the best player of the tournament and got Rs 25,000, while Shampa Mukharjee was declared the best wicketkeeper.

APF’s Jyoti Pandey and Sarita Magar received the best batter and best bowler awards respectively. Mukharjee, Pandey and Magar earned Rs 10,000 each.

A total of six teams took part in the tournament organised by United Attariya Sports Club under the sponsorship of Ruslan.
