Sanghai wins Master Selection Golf Tournament

Sailesh Sanghai won the title of the Master Selection Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.
Sanghai, who completed his round on Friday, bagged the trophy on count back after he was tied on 39 points with Bharat Bastakoti. The 14-handicapper Sanghai and seven-handicapper Bastakoti scored 19 points on the front nine and 20 on the latter half. The winner was decided on the count of last three holes as both the players remained tied on the last six holes as well.
Sanghai, who was not present at the prize ceremony, received round-trip tickets to Bangkok for a couple, while Bastakoti earned Kathmandu-Delhi-Kathmandu air tickets. Phuntsok N Lama won the gross section trophy with 33 points and received round-trip tickets to Pokhara.
Kalpana Limbu won the women’s section title with 32 points, while Rekha Ghimire was runner-up with 29. Likewise, Gopal Chitrakar finished first in senior section with 37 points, while Maj Gen Gajendra Bahadur Limbu came second with 33. Kalyan G Shrestha bagged the super senior category award with 26 points.
Tahir Shah won the most birdies award with three birdies while Ang Norbu Sherpa and Balaram Chaulagain claimed the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin awards respectively.
A total of 70 golfers took part in the two-day tournament organised by Vijay Distillery Pvt Ltd to on the occasion of the centenary celebration of Royal Nepal Golf Club. The winners also received gift hampers of the RNGC and limited-edition Master Selection whisky from Vijay Distillery. Jawalakel Group of Industries Chairperson Maggie Shah, CEO Sameer Kaiwar and Nepal Golf Association President Tashi Ghale among others handed over the prizes to the winners.
