Lalitpur, December 17:

Samata Shakya and Alisha Gautam advanced to the second round of the sixth Jaykar Memorial Junior National Tennis Championship here today.

Samata beat Diwana Shrestha 6-1, 6-0 and Alisha rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Prakriti Shrestha in the U-16 girls’ event. In the girls’ U-14 section, Sagun Thapa overcame Sina Mathema 6-1, 6-1 and Mina Gurung eased past Prakriti Shrestha 6-4, 6-0. Also advancing were Alisha Lisanovic, Saloni Lama, Samata Shakya, Anuska Joshi, Pabitra Gurung and Rinching Dolma.

Saroj Gurung entered the U-16 boys’ second round with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ashiq Sigdel. Others advancing included Sudigya Pant, Sonam Ghunsuk, Saswat Satyal and Prajwal Kayastha.

Abhisek Bastola defeated Brahmand Moktan 8-6 and Sakchham overcame Samrakchhak Bhusan Bajracharya 8-3 to enter the next round in the U-10 boys’ category.

Suyog Pant, Gaurav Raut, Pranav Shakya, Ajay Devkota and Avay Gauchan also advanced in the U-10 boys’ section.
