Sayed off to Macau

Kathmandu, October 20:

Fakhre Shah Sayed today left for Macau to participate in the Macau Open 2008 to be held at the Macau Golf and Country Club on October 21 and 22.

Sayed, who won the Carlsberg Golf Classic Tournament held at the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) in September with 40 points, is the fifth golfer to represent the RNGC. Sayed was also the best Front Nine title winner of the tournament.

Yelamber Adhikari was the first to compete in 2003 after winning the Carlsberg Golf Classic in 2002 and did the country proud by getting the Odyssey Putter award.

Other Carlsberg Golf Classic winners, Vijay Moktan, Maj NK Rai, Dawa Sherpa have participated in the tournaments in previous years.

Sayed’s tour, including the participation and stay in Macau, is sponsored by Carlsberg. Shah, who has a rest day on Tuesday, will take part in the Pro-am event on Wednesday. He will return home the next day.

“I am going abroad and am obviously elated. I must thank Carlsberg for providing me with the opportunity and will play a good round of golf there,” Sayed said. He hoped that such international exposure through the event of this stature would play a major role in the development of golf and golfers in the country.
