Shrestha extends lead

Top pro Shivaram Shrestha carded four-under 64 to stay at the top of the leaderboard after the second day of the Surya Nepal Kathmandu Open here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Shrestha posted the 36-hole total of 10-under to take two-shot lead over Bikash Adhikari, who also shot four-under 64.

Shrestha carded three-under 31 on the front nine and shot one-under 33 on the back nine. He carded birdies on the first, fourth, seventh and ninth holes against a bogey on the sixth. On the back nine, Shrestha carded birdies on the 13th and 16th holes before facing bogey on the 17th hole.

Adhikari carded two-under 32 on either half. Adhikari had birdies on the first, third, fourth and eighth holes against bogeys on the second and seventh. Adhikari shot three straight birdies from 12th and faced a bogey on the 16th hole.

Rame Magar carded 67 to move to third with the total of four-under 132. Dhana Bahadur Thapa (69) was fourth at two-under 134, two strokes ahead of Surya Prasad Sharma (67). Rajendra Thapa Magar (69) was sixth at one-over 137, while Deepak Magar (71) was next at 138. Dhruba KC, Bhuwan Nagarkoti and Jayaram Shrestha (67) shared the eighth position

at 139.

A total of 23 pros and six amateurs survived the cut which was applied at 12-over 148.

In amateur section, Sukra Bahadur Rai moved to the top after he produced the best card of the day carding five-under 63 for the total score of five-under 131. Fellow national team member Tanka Bahadur Karki, who shot one-over 69, was two strokes behind. Subash Tamang was third at one-under 135 after he carded even-par 68. Binod Tamang, Sandip Tamang and Bipin Tamang also survived the cut.

The tournament, second event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2018-19, carries a total purse of Rs 551,250. Top three pros will receive Rs 95,000, Rs 65,000 and Rs 55,000 respectively.
