Shrestha, Sherpa win Pro-Am titles

Kathmandu, February 10

Bijay Bahadur Shrestha and Ang Tshiring Sherpa won the Pro-Am titles of the Golfer Pilots NPGA Classic here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format as an individual event unlike other Pro-Am events, Shrestha earned 35 points to claim the nett category trophy ahead of Subodh Thapa (34 points).

Sherpa lifted the gross section award on count back after he was tied on 27 points with Phuntshok N Lama. Sherpa scored 13 points on the back nine, while Lama had 12. The winners of both nett and gross categories received return tickets to Sharjah for a couple by Air Arabia.

Rekha Ghimire bagged the women’s section trophy with 31 points, also on the count back after she was tied with Pratima Sherpa. Ghimire scored 17 points on the back nine, while Sherpa earned just 14.

Vijay Einhaus won the longest drive award, while Charlie Gurung won the most birdies trophy with three birdies. Joseph Nathan missed the Hole-in-One prize by a couple of feet on the 10th hole and bagged the closest-to-the-pin award.

A total of 69 amateurs took part in the tournament which was played in different format. Each group had a professional to help the amateurs. Main sponsors of the tournament, pilots-cum-golfers Capt Deepak Thapaliya, Capt Rabindra Purush Dhakal and Capt Vijay Pratap Singh handed over the prizes to the winners.

Nepal No 1 pro Shivaram Shrestha won the main event on Friday with the 54-hole total score of eight-under 200. Bhuwan Nagarkoti was second at 203, followed by Rame Magar (209). The sixth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2018-19 carried a total purse of Rs 300,000.
