Simkhada wins monthly medal

Kathmandu, December 5

Shyam Simkhada won the title of the ninth edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

The 14-handicap golfer Simkhada carded six-under 66 nett to lift the trophy. Sumed Bhattarai scored four-under 68 nett to finish second, while Jabbor Kayumov came third at one-under 71 nett.

Andrew Murray won the gross section title with the score of seven-over 79, while Aditi Ghimire lifted the junior section award on count back after she was third on four-over 76 nett with Tenzing Sherpa.

In all, 38 players took part in the tournament, sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire gave away the prizes to the winners. The tournament was played under stroke play format with full handicap.

After the ninth event, Prithivi Malla and SSP Rajendra Shrestha share the top spot with 330 points, while Gopal Chitrakar is third with 244 points. Tendi Sherpa is fourth with 230 points and Andrew Murray is next on 140. In nett section, Kishan Agrawal is at the top with 184 points, ahead of SSP Shrestha (162). Jabbor Kayumov is third with 146, while Purna Man Shakya (140) and Sonam Norbu Lama (136) complete the top five.

In junior category, Mayank Dahal leads the table with 420 points, while Sam Doublard is second on 340. Shreeyog Basnyat and Aditi Ghimire share third position with 240 points, whereas Tenzing Tshering is fifth with 100 points.

The 10th and final qualifying events for club championship will be played on December 19. Top 10 scorers in gross, 30 in nett and five in junior sections will qualify for the club championships to be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
