South Africa, which is playing for pride after conceding a decisive 2-0 lead in the series, needs to bat another full day to secure a draw.

Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane got a century in each innings for India with a 100 not out in the second innings as India declared on 267-5.

His knock of 127 in the first innings had helped gain a 213-run first-innings lead.
