Referees off to KL
KATHMANDU: The Nepali Asian Football Confederation (AFC) referees Sudish Pandey of Sarlahi and Prem Bahadur Bhujel of Morang on Monday left Malaysia to participate in the Final Development Course under the AFC Future Referee Batch 2007 programme slated for November 18-24. Pandey and Bhujel are among the 24 young referees
from Asia being groomed by the AFC to preprare themselves to officiate in the World Cup matches in future. The AFC have been providing training to the referees in various stages since 2007. — HNS
SEB Volleyball
KATHMANDU: Samakhushi English Boarding (SEB) School, under the auspices of Nepal Volleyball Association, is organising the fifth SEB Inter-school Running Shield Volleyball Tournament from November 27-30 in Kathmandu. A total of 24 teams — 12 each in boys and girls’ sections — are expected to take part in the tournament, said the organisers at a press meet on Monday. The organisers have formed seven sub-committees under the 15-member main organising committee for the grand success of the tournament, said SEB School principal Yuvaraj Thapa. — HNS
Hosts Gurukul win
KATHMANDU: Hosts Gurukul, Kathmandu Football Academy (KFA) and Sun Flower registered wins in the league round matches at the Gurukul Girls’ Football Cup. On Monday, Gurukul defeated NR 2-0 on goals from player of the match Binita Tamang and Unisha Shahi. Likewise, Kathmandu Football Academy laboured to a 3-2 win over Societal. Laxmi Lama and Elina Shahi scored one each for KFA, while their third goal came courtesy an own goal from a Societal player. Chhaya Kathayat scored both the goals for Societal. Sarita Lama of KFA was named the player of the match. Also, Sun Flower defeated Children Heaven 3-1. Player of the match Manisha Nagarkoti struck twice and Roji Nagarkoti netted one for Sun Flower, while Rasu Thapa scored the consolation goal for Children Heaven. In the last match of the day, St Joseph and Man Singh Dharma played a 1-1 draw. Sushma Gurung scored for St Joseph and Sunita Tamang replied for Man Singh. Malati Tamang of St Joseph was named the player of the match. — HNS

KATHMANDU: The Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Hari Babu Chaudhary on Monday returned home from China after taking part in the chef-de-mission meeting of the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. Chaudhary, who had gone to Vietnam leading the Nepali team at the third Asian Indoor Games, left for Guangzhou after the regional games. NSC Member Min Krishna Maharjan had taken charge of the sports governing body in the absence of Chaudhary. — HNS
