KATHMANDU, JULY 19

Nepal No 1 amateur Subash Tamang bounced back on second day of the Singapore Open Amateur Championship, while Sadvhab Acharya missed the cut at the par-73 Orchid Country Club today.

Tamang carded four-under 69 in the second round to post the 36-hole total of four-under 142. He climbed nine spots up to 13th position and remained six strokes off the pace. Tamang had played even-par 73 in the first round.

Another Nepali golfer Sadbhav Acharya missed the cut after he played second straight nine-over 82. Acharya, who pulled muscle during training at Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy in Bangalore, could not recover fully and crashed out of the tournament.

Tamang carded one-under 35 on the front nine and played three-under 34 aftertaking the turn. After dropping a shot on the second hole, Tamang carded birdies on the fourth and seventh. He sank an eagle on the 15th and carded three birdies on the 11th, 13th and 17th holes. He was undone by the bogeys on the 12th and 18th holes.

Carl Jano Corpus of the Philippines carded second consecutive five-under 68 to move to the top of the leaderboard at 10-under 136. He was one stroke ahead of his teammate Aidric Jose Chan (68) and Australian Marcus Lim (70). Out of the 86 players from 22 countries, 56 golfers survived the cut that fell at 13-over 159.

In team event, Nepal finished 12th with total score of 14-over 306. Singapore3 were at the bottom in the 13-team competition at 307.

Philippines1 finished first with 19-under 273, while Singapore1 (281) and Australia (284) were second and third respectively.
