KATHMANDU, JULY 21

Nepal No 1 amateur golfer Subash Tamang carded second straight two-under 71 and finished ninth in the 75th Singapore Open Amateur Championship at the par-73 Orchid Country Club in Aranda-Dendro today.

The 13th South Asian Games double gold medallist, Tamang posted the 72- hole total of eight-under 284 to earn a share of ninth position with Australian golfer Abel Eduard, who carded three-under 70 in the fourth and final round.

Tamang played two-under 34 before taking the turn and settled for even-par 37 on the back nine. He carded a total of six birdies in the round but he was undone by four bogeys. Tamang earned shots on the third, fourth, seventh and ninth holes on the front nine and faced bogeys on the sixth and eighth.

After taking the turn, he dropped shots on the 15th and 18th after carding birdies on the 11th and 14th holes.

Tamang finished 10 strokes behind winner, Australia's Lincoln Morgan.

Overnight leader Morgan carded three-under 70 to win the trophy with the total score of 18-under 274. He recorded one-stroke victory over three golfers - Philippines duo Aidric Chan (67) and Carl Jano Corpus (69) along with Australian Marcus Lim (70).

Vietnam's Nguyen Anh Minh (68) finished fifth at 13-under 279, one stroke ahead of Hong Kong's Markus Z Lam (68). Jolo Magcalayo (72) of the Philippines came seventh at 10-under 282, while Australian Tom Addy was eighth at 9-under 283 after he carded four-under 69. A total of 86 golfers from 22 countries took part in the tournament.

In the team event which was played over 36 holes on the first two days, the Nepali team of Tamang and Sadbhav Acharya finished 12th with total score of 14-over 306. Singapore3 were at the bottom in the 13-team competition at 307. Philippines1 won the title with the score of 19-under 273, while Singapore1 (281) and Australia (284) were second and third respectively.
