Karna Bahadur Thapa won the first edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stroke play full handicap format, Thapa carded nine-under 63 to win the trophy on count back. He was tied with Dhundul Namgyal, who finished as runner-up as he was one shot behind Thapa on the back nine. Rabin Phuyal was third with the score of eight-under 64.

Vijay Shrestha Einhaus won the gross section trophy with the score of one-under 71, while Sadbhav Acharya finished first among junior golfers after he played a round of even-par 72. In all, 50 golfers took part in the event sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Executive Member of Gokarna Golf Club Tendi Sherpa handed over the prizes to the winners.

A total of 10 medal rounds will be played under the tournament and top 40 in nett section, 10 in gross category and five junior golfers will make it to the final. The final of the Club Championship will be played over two rounds in November and December.

After the first event, winner Thapa earned 100 points to lead the nett section, while Namgyal is second with 60 points, followed by Phuyal (40) and Tendi Sherpa (35). Shrestha Einhaus leads the gross category with 100 points, while junior section winner Acharya is second with 60. Charlie Gurung (40), Wangchen Dhondup (35) and Tashi Tshiring (30) are in top five. Acharya is at the top in junior section with 100 points, while Shaswat Pradhan is second with 60.
